Joey Archer | Guitar, Bass and Ukulele

Joey Archer’s life has revolved around music since he was a child. Studying trombone and bass in High School, he graduated with the nationally recognized John Phillip Sousa Award and the National Choral Award. Joey has continued to pursue a career in music both as a performer and an instructor. He has played in various musical genres including musical theater, studio recording and live performances. He also has toured nationally and internationally with Times Two Ministries.

Joey’s passion to help each student succeed is evident in his “down to earth” teaching style. This has led to his current teaching schedule of over 100 lessons a week! Students and their parents have described him as patient, encouraging, motivating, a good mentor, and helpful. In 2007, his desire to help others took on new meaning when he opened Jammin’ Music Studios. In just a few years it grew from just him to over 15 instructors teaching 500+ lessons a week. His focus as an instructor is to teach the fundamentals while helping his students learn to play the music they like. Proper technique, note reading, classical music theory, ear training and how to play with others are woven into the instruction.

Joey and his wife Beth have two beautiful daughters, Aliyah and Piper. When not playing or teaching music Joey enjoys technology (gadgets, computers, smartphones, etc) and time with his family. On guitar his musical influences and tastes include but are not limited to Dave Matthews Band, Eric Clapton, John Mayer, Chris Tomlin, the Beatles, the Civil Wars, Needtobreathe, Matt Redman, Jim Croce and Kansas. On bass they include Marcus Miller, Victor Wooten, Adam Nitti, Abraham Laboriel, Carol Kaye and Billy Sheehan.

STUDENT REVIEWS

For years I always wanted to learn to play guitar. When my 10 year old expressed interest, I decided I would try to learn along with him. I found Joey Archer and Jammin’ Music Studios and it was the best thing we have ever done. It has been two years and we love going every week. I have been able to learn all the songs on my wish list plus more than I even dreamed I would be able to play so soon. As an adult taking lessons, I love that I can bring in any song, Pink Floyd, Garth Brooks, Bruno Mars, Jack Johnson- you name it and Joey will incorporate it into my lesson. The solid music theory and technique is covered in the books, but getting to play what I love at the same time is so much fun. Now that both kids and I are taking lessons, we love to have campfires in the backyard so that we can all play together. In fact, last Christmas, Joey altered a Christmas carol so that the three of us could play it together, customizing each part to our abilities and my kids wrote and played a song on the guitar for a Christmas present. What could be better than that? -Laura K

My son is one of Joey’s youngest students, he is 6. I really like that he tailors the teaching to his age level. Anthony looks forward to going to guitar lessons every week. Joey also always gives just the right amount of homework for my son, so that my son can stay focused. He also teaches him music that he listens to and is familiar with and is interested in. He also makes my son laugh. He has been in lessons 7 months and will continue for many years to come. -Karyl

I take lessons with Joey Archer. After only 2 months I am playing like I never thought I could before lessons. I choose the songs I want to learn and am constantly challenged. You will have to commit to practicing when you sign up, if you just want to look cool carrying a guitar case, you may as well put your lunch in it, because this is a place to learn to get better every week. I highly recommend… -KH
